Traveling with peace of mind is what everyone wants, right? Who doesn't dream of hitting the road or taking a plane without that last-minute headache?

I've had my fair share of mishaps while traveling — from forgetting important things to getting lost in places I never imagined — and, over time, I've learned that you can avoid these mishaps with a little organization and a few simple tricks.

So, I decided to put together 10 tips that, for me, make all the difference in making the most of it without stress.

Let's talk about it? Grab a coffee, write down what you think is cool and start dreaming about your next trip!

1. Plan ahead (but don’t be neurotic)

Look, I know that not everyone is a fan of planning, but I'll tell you: booking flights and accommodation in advance has saved me from paying double or having no place to sleep.

It's not just about price — it's about peace of mind.

When you know where you're going, you can do some research to find out what's good there.

For example, I love eating well, so I always look for local restaurants to try. But if you like adrenaline, you can look for different trails or tours.

The trick is to have an idea of what to expect so you don't get lost when the time comes.

2. Checklist is life to travel peacefully

Seriously, I've left home without a cell phone charger and almost went crazy trying to find one in the middle of the trip.

Nowadays, I make a basic list: documents (passport or ID, depending on the destination), money, medicines I use, clothes that match the weather.

Before closing my suitcase, I check to make sure I haven’t forgotten anything. It may seem silly, but it avoids that “oh my God, where’s my card?” moment at the airport.

Do this and start your journey with your head in the right place.

3. The right suitcase, less headache

I learned this the hard way: taking a giant suitcase on a short trip is a trap.

I once dragged a huge piece of luggage up a flight of stairs at a train station and swore never to do it again.

Now, I think like this: if it's really quick, a backpack will do; if it's longer, a suitcase with wheels is ideal.

The trick is not to overdo it — only take what you’ll actually use. This makes life easier when it comes to getting around and also saves you from extra fees on flights. Less weight, more joy, you know?

4. Travel insurance is a great way to travel with peace of mind

There was one time when I twisted my foot badly on a trail and, if it weren't for the insurance, I would have spent a fortune at the doctor.

Today, I don't travel without it. It covers everything from health problems to lost luggage or cancelled flights.

In international destinations, then, it goes without saying — the costs abroad can be frightening.

I always do some research to find one that fits my budget, and I travel knowing that if something goes wrong, I won't be left stranded. It's that relief that's worth every penny.

5. Money in hand, worry out

I'm a bit careless with finances, I confess, but I learned that organizing your money before traveling is essential.

I make a simple budget: how much will I spend on food, transportation, tours.

I carry some cash and my cards — one credit and one debit, just in case.

I tell the bank not to block anything (I've been there, it's so annoying!) and I save some extra money for emergencies. That way, I can enjoy myself without having to count coins or freak out about the bill later.

6. Get to know the place before you arrive

One time, I arrived somewhere thinking it was going to be hot and it was freezing cold — I didn't bring a coat and I got screwed.

Now, I research everything: the climate, the customs, how the transportation works. I've seen that in some countries you have to tip, in others it's almost an insult.

Knowing these little things will help you avoid mistakes and make you feel more confident about exploring.

I like to write down tips on places to visit, like a hidden cafe or a cool street, and that always makes for good stories.

7. Don’t fill the script to the brim

I used to be the type of person who wanted to do a thousand things in one day, but I realized that this only made me tired and irritable and didn't allow me to travel in peace. Today, I leave my itinerary more open.

Of course I plan the basics, but I save a little time for surprises — I've found an incredible street market like that without wanting to.

So, my tip is: have a direction, but don't get too attached. Traveling peacefully also means having the freedom to stop, breathe and enjoy whatever comes your way.

8. Take care of yourself from the beginning to travel peacefully

I've felt sick before because I didn't drink enough water on a long flight — never again! Now, I take my own water bottle, try to eat light foods, and carry some basic medicine in my bag: painkillers, something for my stomach, that kind of thing.

If I'm going to try street food (which I love!), I'll go slowly so as not to overdo it. And, look, knowing where there's a pharmacy or hospital nearby also helps you feel more at ease. If you're feeling well, the trip will go smoothly.

9. Technology is your friend

I'm a bit lost with directions, so Google Maps is my savior and allows me to travel with peace of mind.

Other than that, I use a translation app to get by with languages I don't speak and even a currency converter so I don't get into trouble with bills.

One time my phone died in the middle of the day and I almost freaked out, so now I carry a portable charger everywhere.

Plug adapters have also saved me in hotels with weird plugs. With these little helpers, everything becomes easier and faster.

10. Really enjoy it

Lastly, but most importantly, really enjoy it.

I've found myself so worried about photos or schedules that I forgot to look at the landscape.

Today, I try to live in the moment — smell the food, hear the street noise, talk to a local. That's what traveling is all about, right?

So, after you've organized everything properly, relax. Smile, try it out, have fun. This is what you've planned so hard for.

To close and travel peacefully

Ultimately, traveling with peace of mind and enjoying yourself to the fullest is about preparing well, but without losing your cool. These 10 tips — planning properly, checklist in hand, packing smart, insurance to be safe, money organized, research beforehand, flexible itinerary, health up to date, technology helping and enjoying the moment — are things that I have learned and that work for me.

I hope they help you too! Next time you’re packing, try these ideas and let me know how it went. Have a good trip — and may it be an unforgettable one!
